Continuous Professional Learning

S.M.A.R.T GOAL

Below are five goals focused on children, families, colleagues, the community, and the environment, all within the context of early childhood education.

Children

In order to foster children’s emotional and social growth, I will introduce a weekly “Feelings Circle” where children are encouraged to express their emotions and listen to others, beginning in the second week of my role and continuing throughout.

Strategy #1

I will utilize visual aids, such as emotion cards and storybooks, to help children identify and name their feelings in a safe and supportive environment.

Strategy #2

I will follow up individually with children who need extra support, using reflective language and positive reinforcement to build emotional literacy and peer connection.

Families

In order to strengthen meaningful relationships with families, I will share thoughtful and relevant observations about their child’s experiences during pick-up time each week, starting from my second month of employment.

Strategy #1

I will maintain a daily log of significant moments, learning experiences, and developmental progress for each child, ensuring I have meaningful insights to share with families.

Strategy #2

I will invite families to share their thoughts or ask questions, fostering a two-way communication channel and building trust.

Colleagues

In order to demonstrate my commitment to the team and ensure I do not place additional responsibilities on my colleagues—such as managing child-to-educator ratios—I will arrive early and maintain consistent attendance every day, starting from the first day of my employment.

Strategy #1

I will set multiple alarms and reminders each evening to help me wake up on time and prepare for the day ahead.

Strategy #2

I will organize my clothing, meals, and materials the night before to avoid morning delays and reduce stress.

Communities

In order to deepen children’s connections with their community, I will collaborate with local community helpers—such as librarians, police officers, firefighters, grocery store staff, and restaurant workers—to visit our classroom and share about their roles. I will aim to organize one visit each month, beginning within the first three months of my employment.

Strategy #1

I will reach out to nearby organizations and introduce the purpose of the visits, emphasizing the value of building relationships with young children.

Strategy #2

I will coordinate with my team to schedule visits during times that work well for the group’s daily routine.

Environment

In order to encourage physical activity and connection to nature, I will organize weekly outdoor games and exercises using natural elements (e.g., tree climbing, rock balancing, nature scavenger hunts) within the first two months of my role, ensuring that all activities support motor skill development.

Strategy #1

I will create an outdoor activity schedule that includes physical games incorporating natural objects, ensuring a balance of structured and unstructured play.

Strategy #2

I will observe children’s interests and abilities during outdoor play to tailor future activities to their developmental needs.
